A shelter in the garden: what your plot needs

For private owners, the garden is usually the only realistic place for a shelter. The house is already built, the basement is in use, and the garden has the space.

Whether it works depends less on the size of the garden than on two things people rarely think about: how a truck gets there, and where a crane can stand.

Two shelters for private plots

SafeGarden is placed above ground in the garden. It comes in two sizes, Compact and Family. SafeOffice is larger and can stand above ground or be placed below ground. Fitted out, it also works as a quiet room or home office in everyday use.

Access comes first

The shelter arrives finished on a heavy-load trailer. The route from the public road to the drop-off point has to take that vehicle: width, turning space, overhead cables, trees.

A mobile crane then lifts the unit over the house or fence into its final position. The crane needs firm, level ground and enough reach. On most suburban plots this is solvable. On a tight terrace or a steep slope, it is the deciding question.

What the ground has to carry

A concrete shelter is heavy. The foundation is designed for the soil on your plot, and for a below-ground SafeOffice the groundwater level matters as well. Where the soil is unknown, a soil survey settles it.

  • Load-bearing capacity of the soil
  • Groundwater level, for below-ground placement
  • Distance to the boundary and to existing buildings
  • Connections for power and, if needed, water

How we check your site

Send us the address, a few photos of the access route and the spot you have in mind, and the number of people you are planning for. We look at access and placement first, and tell you which of the two shelters fits before we talk about price.

Questions we get asked

No. SafeGarden is designed to stand above ground. If you want a shelter below ground, SafeOffice is the one to look at.
